LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A new plant will open in Lawrence County in 2013, and Monday, it got a big boost to help fund development.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley awarded a $400,000 Community Development Block Grant to fund public infrastructure for the Jack Daniel Cooperage plant coming to Mallard Fox West Industrial Park. Once open next year, the plant will produce oak barrels for the Jack Daniel Distillery. The plant will employ 120 people, and expects to add 100 more workers within five years.

Lawrence County will use the grant money to improve water service for the plant site and industrial park, located off of U.S. Highway 72 near the Morgan County line.

“Providing jobs for Alabamians is a priority of my administration, and our team is eager to assist whenever possible,” Governor Bentley said. “I commend local leaders and company officials for the efforts that made this expansion and resulting job opportunities possible.”

The $27.5 million plant will be located on 60 acres in the industrial park.
