LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A family lost much of their belongings Monday in a house fire in Lawrence County.

The fire started about 9 a.m. near County Road 241 and County Road 305 in the Chalybeate area.

Three fire departments responded to the scene —  Chalybeate, Moulton and Caddo.  One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion and taken to a nearby hospital.

Firefighters say two adults and four children live in the home, but weren’t there at the time.   The family is renting and had just moved in a few weeks ago.  In fact, they hadn’t finished unpacking.

The fire department says the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there is major damage in the kitchen area and other damage throughout the rest of the home.
