FALKVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- School starts Thursday for students in Falkville, but this year parents and teachers do not need to buy school supplies.

Thanks to local churches and other community organizations efforts, the entire elementary school is stocked up and ready for the year.

Monday evening during a back to school open house, the standing room only crowd cheered as Falkville Elementary School Principal Shane Bryan told them the news.

"This is a huge blessing and I am so proud to be a part of a community like this," parent Casandra Jones said.

350 students go back to school at Falkville Elementary Thursday morning, but Monday night teachers like Lori Kyker were busy organizing all the new donated supplies.

"Its made it a lot easier on us, so that we had everything ready to go when these kids walk in and we are ready to go on the first day," Kyker said.

Officials say the effort began with a Backpack Bonanza sponsored by the Pine Baptist Church.

Valley Rubber was another major contributor along with other local churches, according to school employees.
