Elkmont Lions Club Hosts Smokin’ Railroad Street BBQ Cook-Off

ELKMONT, Ala. (WHNT) –The Elkmont Lions Club will host the 4th Annual Smokin’ Railroad Street BBQ Cook-Off this weekend.

The event is a fundraiser to pay for eyeglasses for children and elderly people.  Also, the civic group will fund two $1,000 scholarships that are awarded each year.

Live music begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21 and the barbecue contest will begin Saturday. The event is free for anyone not competing in the contest. The Lions Club will sell barbecue plates, funnel cakes and shaved ice.

The amount of cooks in the competition rose from 10 teams in 2010 to 23 this year.
