LACEY SPRINGS, Ala. (WHNT) – A DUI checkpoint led to a meth bust in Morgan County Thursday.
Deputies say the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and the Alabama State Troopers were conducting the checkpoint on River Loop Road and McCutheon Loop Road in Lacey Springs. Deputies noticed a vehicle stop short of the checkpoint and the passenger and driver switched seats.
When deputies asked the passenger, 26-year-old Douglass Paseur, why they changed seats seats, he told deputies he didn’t have a driver’s license.
Deputies say Paseur and the driver appeared nervous. They received permission to search the car and discovered a bag of methamphetamine. The driver, 34-year-old Dana Brooke Hodges, told deputies she had several bags of meth and a meth pipe on her.
After a complete search drug agents found digital drug scales and several thousand dollars.
Agents charged Paseur with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Hodges was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Both are being held on $2,800 bonds.
Paseur also told law enforcement at the jail that he threw an ounce of meth into a nearby ditch. Deputies recovered the bag. Charges against Paseur could be upgraded later as a result.
