(WHNT) – Decatur Police arrested a man after they say he led them on a high-speed chase through Decatur and parts of Limestone County.
Officers say it started around midnight near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Beltline Road. Police tried to stop the driver after what officers believed to be reckless driving.
Police say the driver took off on 6th Avenue toward Highway 31. They chased him to Calhoun Community College where police say he drove around the campus. They say he hit a Decatur police patrol car then headed north on Highway 31 again.
Officers placed spike strips on Highway 31 just north of Huntsville Brownsferry Road. However, the driver turned before getting to them. Police say say he drove on Huntsville Brownsferry Road for another 10 minutes. Officers say the driver turned on Blackburn Road then stopped and turned himself in to police.
Police say the driver reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour during the chase.
The driver faces charges of driving under the influence, attempting to elude police, drug possession and reckless driving.
