FALKVILLE, Ala (WHNT) — The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) says investigators have arrested a suspect and charged him with capital murder in connection to a fatal shooting in Falkville Sunday.

MCSO said deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 50 block of Goodwin Road near Wilhite Road in Falkville at around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

MCSO said when deputies arrived on scene, they found one person dead and another suffering from a gunshot wound. A third victim with a gunshot wound had reportedly left the scene before deputies arrived and arrived at the Falkville Town Hall.

The victim who died at the scene was identified by the MCSO as Mitchell Ray Beard, 62 of Falkville.

MCSO Public Information Officer Mike Swafford told News 19 that the two people with gunshot wounds were treated by EMS and transported by air ambulance to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Swafford said that two people were detained at the scene.

One of the suspects detained was 35-year-old Joshua Lamar Knighten of Falkville. He was later arrested by investigators and charged with capital murder.
