DECATUR, Ala. – On Monday we reported that Decatur police were searching for a man suspected in a shooting on West Moulton Street. Now, police say the person shot has recanted his official statement and is no longer cooperating with investigators.
On Saturday, August 9th, around 10:00 p.m., police responded to a shooting call in the 1200-block of West Moulton Street. They arrived to find someone with two gunshot wounds who was treated and released from the hospital.
After the shooting, Decatur Police identified the person responsible as Johnny Darryl Strong and said he was charged with assault. Those charges have since been dropped.
Police say because the person shot had identified the shooter to law enforcement officers and medical personnel, a warrant has now been obtained for his arrest. That person will be charged with false reporting and the bond for the charge is $300.
