DECATUR, Ala. – Decatur police say a man is dead following a shooting early Monday morning. The family has identified him as Michael Irvin Jr.
Authorities responded to a shooting call on the 1000 block of Marion Street at around 3:18 a.m. Upon arriving, police say they found the body with multiple gunshot wounds.
This is the department’s first homicide of 2019. Love and support are keeping Irvin’s family going during this difficult time.
“My nephew did not deserve this,” said Irvin’s aunt, Schuylet Robinson.
His family says Irvin’s two young children were in the house at the time of the shooting.
Irvin’s family says he had just turned 30 in December. Robinson remembers him as a quiet family man.
“He was just a good-hearted dude, said Robinson. “I never heard him say anything bad about anybody.”
His family wants answers.
“For somebody just to do this and the neighbors, nobody know anything. Just, I feel like it’s just a lie,” said Robinson.
To the person responsible for her nephew’s death, Robinson says, “God be with you because we gonna have to forgive, but I never will forget.”
Authorities believe this to be an isolated incident and are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information regarding the case should contact Violent Crimes Detective Sean Mukaddam at (256)341-4600.
