Decatur man arrested following standoff, now out on bond

DECATUR, Ala. – Anthony Joseph Messina of Decatur was arrested in connection with a standoff on Danville Road on September 7. He is now out on bond.

Decatur Police said Messina, 37, was charged with shooting into an unoccupied building.

Officers were called to the 1600-block of Danville Road around 6 a.m. for a report of a man with a gun.

Officers discovered Messina had locked himself inside his home and called for the DPD Crisis Negotiation Unit, as well as SWAT.

A portion of Danville Road between Westmeade and Evelee Streets was closed for just under two hours while officers attempted to get Messina to come out.

He surrendered to police without incident around 8:48 a.m.

Messina was booked into the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond. He was released on September 8.
