LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A Lawrence County man lost his life in a house fire Wednesday night.

Investigators responded to the home on Alternate 72 near Trinity around 10 p.m Wednesday. The body of Azrel Gene Stovall was found inside the home, according to his family and authorities.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the home around 9:30 Wednesday evening. When they arrived, they found the house burning. Deputies had responded to the home earlier Wednesday for a domestic disturbance, according to Sheriff Gene Mitchell.

Mitchell said preliminary information leans toward possible arson, but investigators are waiting on further investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. He said investigators can’t be certain the two events are connected, but the investigation is ongoing.

Susie Ella Stovall, Azrel Stovall’s wife, was arrested at the scene for failing to appear in court on a domestic violence complaint filed by her husband. The family member we spoke to said there was a troubled history between the couple.

Another object, likely a trailer, was also destroyed in the fire.

Deputies will keep the scene secured until State Fire Marshal investigators can arrive.
