2 people killed in Highway 20 crash in Decatur

DECATUR, Ala. – Two people are dead after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20.

The wreck happened around 12:40 p.m. on Alabama Highway 20, east of U.S. Highway 31 in Decatur.  Perry Romine, 38, of Madison, was driving west in a white 2016 Freightliner M2 truck when it rear-ended a 2007 Mack TR truck driven by Billy Smith, 35, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.

According to Decatur Police, Romine was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Limestone County Coroner. The passenger in Romine’s vehicle, Darius Collins, 25, of Huntsville, was transported to Huntsville Hospital by air ambulance where he was later pronounced dead. Smith was uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing.
