1 dead following early morning shooting in Limestone County

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. – One person is dead following a shooting in Limestone County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West identified the man as David Lee Walton, 65, of Belle Mina.

Deputy Stephen Young confirmed that the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on Garrett Road in the Belle Mina area.

Young said the shooter came home and found a man in his home, and shot the man when he attacked the homeowner.

The incident remains under investigation.

Coroner West confirmed Walton’s body has been sent to the state forensic lab for autopsy.
