Decatur shooting suspect located; charged with assault and possession

DECATUR, Ala. – A man is in jail after the Decatur Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit located and arrested him in connection to a shooting that occurred on August 3.

Police began the investigation after they responded to a shooting on 2nd street.  Upon arrival they found Jeffrey Williams had been shot in the leg.  Williams was transported and treated at Huntsville Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Members of the Organized Crime Unit were searching for Billy Lashawn Jones to serve a warrant for 2nd degree assault.  Officers spotted him on Wednesday and took him into custody.

Authorities say Jones had Marijuana on his person at the time of his arrest and was also charged with possession.

Jones was out on bond for a previous drug related felony and the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office is beginning the proceedings to have that prior bond revoked.

Jones  will be transferred to the Morgan County jail in lieu of a $75,000 bond
