Man found dead at Econo Lodge in Athens, police investigate

ATHENS, Ala. – Athens Police Department was called to investigate a death at a hotel in Athens Monday morning.

Athens Chief of Police Floyd Johnson says police, along with Athens Limestone Ambulance Service and Athens Fire Department responded to a report of an unresponsive person at the Econo Lodge located at 1500 US Hwy 72 E in Athens.

When authorities arrived, they say they found the body of a 48-year-old man in one of the rooms.

Law enforcement says the cause of death is unknown at this time, but Limestone County Coroner Mike West said the body was taken to forensics for further investigation.

Our News 19 crew said scene was cleared around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

The Athens Police Department is continuing to investigate the death.
