CULLMAN, Ala. (WHNT) – Alabama State Troopers said 54-year-old Carl Rayburn Curry of Hanceville was struck and killed by a 2012 Mack truck driven by 23-year-old William Mitchell of Brienfield. Trooper Curtis Summerville said Curry was pronounced dead at the scene; Mitchell was not injured.

The traffic accident shut down Interstate 65 Southbound in Cullman County on Friday evening. Officials told WIAT a mechanic was struck by an 18-wheeler while working on the shoulder. The Cullman County Coroner initially identified the mechanic as Curry.

Troopers say an 18-wheeler was broken down on the shoulder of the interstate near mile marker 305. Authorities say another 18-wheeler sideswiped the semi and service truck on the scene, killing Curry.
