DANVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – There’s a group of youngsters in Morgan County going after their dreams of ‘making it’ in the world of Bluegrass music.

The four members of “Dixie Flavor” are well on their way, giving radio and television audiences a sampling of what they can do.

The members say some in entertainment are calling them “up and coming” artists in Bluegrass music.

The three middle schoolers and one high schooler from Danville are Alaina Wiley on fiddle and vocals, Garrett Mason on mandolin, Gary Templeton on lead guitar and Kyle Moss on banjo.

“I think we all have sort of like, I guess you could say, have different flavor, different style to add to the group,” said Alaina Wiley.  “I think we’re trying to make it somewhere but also tie in our hometown as well.”

As lead singer, Alaina Wiley has been performing since she was four years old.  The other guys of the group are good friends and also musically inclined.

“It’s rare to find this much talent in one school in one area,” said Cindy Wiley, Alaina’s mother and sponsor to the group.  “They’ve all been friends for a long time and share an interest.  They just have this enormous passion for music.”

She said the group formed only a few months ago and has already performed at the fair.  And they have a few more gigs booked.

“They’re going to be on the Old Time Radio Show in Lynchburg, Tennessee and the Shotgun Red Show that’s going to be filmed in Nashville on the General Jackson showboat on February 2nd.

She said the episode of the syndicated Shotgun Red Show will air sometime in March.

And given these youngsters have done it all on their own time, their principal already considers them a success.

“They are just showing all students that they can live up to their dreams and find a way to get together and excel,” said Kellie Tanner, Principal at Danville High School.

After their upcoming performances, Dixie Flavor is already set to record their first CD and then see how far their talent will take them.
