MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) -- On the night of Madison's State of the City address, leaders across Madison County are speaking out about the positive joint efforts being made between the City of Huntsville and Madison.

Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong says the partnerships across the county are paving the way for a bright future.

"The effort of working together has it's hardships," said Strong. "But I'll be honest, I really think we're heading in the right direction."

Chairman Strong says that he agrees with Madison Mayor Troy Trulock and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle when it comes to the future. He says economic development is on the top of everyone's minds when it comes to improving the county.

"We are the economic engine for this entire area so it does take a strong collaborative effort," said Chairman Strong. "I think right now we are just watching as these relationships grow and as people mesh and work well together."

Strong says events like Madison's State of the City address help get North Alabama residents excited about the future and puts the spotlight on the road ahead.

"We're no longer the cotton fields and corn fields of Madison County," said Strong. "We're a very progressive county and we're setting the example throughout the southeastern United States."
