DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - A Decatur manufacturer that has invested heavily in its community earns a prestigious statewide award.

Daikin America was named the 2012 Alabama Manufacturer of the Year by The Business Council of Alabama.

The company makes all kinds of products from air conditioners to chemicals used on electronics.

Daikin's spokesman submitted the 30-page application for the award, in which he highlighted the company's strengths and growth since they came to Decatur 20 years ago.

"Operational excellence, financial growth, growth in employment, improvements in our training and re-training efforts, investment in the community, commitment to customers," said Forrest Keith, Daikin's spokesman.

Daikin made news recently, giving the City of Decatur $100,000 towards a new amphitheater.  That was just a short time after giving Morgan County $100,000 to upgrade a community park.

The company is also expanding to create more jobs in Decatur.
