CollegeCounts to giveaway $529 to 29 Alabama babies

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama’s 529 Fund will celebrate May 29 by selecting at random 29 babies to receive $529 in contributions to an existing or newly opened CollegeCounts account.

Babies born between May 29, 2018 and May 29 of this year are eligible.

Alabama State Treasurer John McMillan says the program encourages families to begin saving for college as early as possible.

Beginning May 29, parents, grandparents and guardians can register their children for the giveaway at

Entries must be submitted by July 13. The 29 winners will be contacted by July 25.

Money in the accounts may be withdrawn and used at colleges, universities, trade schools and graduate schools in Alabama and across the United States.
