Tuesday on WHNT News 19 This Morning, Michelle Stark offered some suggestions for technology-related items to have on hand. The following are just a couple of ideas:

Weather radios - These are available in most home goods stores and once programed for your area, will send you real-time updates of bad weather and emergency alerts.

Extra batteries - Stock up on a variety of sizes and make sure you have the right sizes for your flashlights or critical electronics.

Mobile phone - If you have a smartphone as your primary communication method, great. If not, think about a prepaid device just for emergencies. Even if you do have a smartphone, it might be a good idea to have a spare, or older device on standby.

Surge protectors - These will help protect expensive electronics and appliances in your home, so look for sales and stock up.

Portable, battery-powered televisions - Good for older people in particular, or those living in rural areas without Internet access or a smartphone. These devices are relatively affordable and a great way to keep access to WHNT News 19's severe weather coverage!
