FLORENCE, Ala. – Police arrested a man who they said was sleeping while his son left their home and went to a grocery store.

The child was found around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning at Wilson’s Food Center on West College Street, Florence police said. He was wearing only a diaper and couldn’t speak, police said.

Police posted the child’s photo on Facebook and said they identified the parents within 30 minutes.

The boy’s father, Mark Foss, 53, was asleep in a bedroom at a home on Hill Street, about a tenth of a mile away, police said. His mother was at work, they said.

Foss was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The child was placed in the care of a relative.
