CHICAGO, Ill. (WGN) – Some Chicago police officers are being investigated for playing what some consider a racist song during a recent protest.

A video shows what appears to be an unmarked police car playing the song “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.  YouTube video shows the car driving slowly by a police brutality protest in Garfield Park Saturday, WGN reports.

The event was a “Black Lives Matter” protest.

Some have said the song, from 1974, praises former Alabama Governor George Wallace, who supported segregation.

Lynyrd Skynyrd says it doesn’t and says the song has been misrepresented over the years.

Others say the song was played because the University of Alabama was playing in the SEC Championship college football game later that day.  The Tide ending up beating Missouri 42-13.
