Change of Responsibility at US Army Materiel Command

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (WHNT) – U.S. Army Command Sgt. Major Ronald T. Riling relinquished his responsibilities with the U.S. Army Materiel Command at Redstone Arsenal to Command Sgt. Major James K. Sims Thursday morning.

Riling is preparing to retire after 31 years in the US Army. For the last 14 years, he served as Command Sergeant Major.

The Change of Responsibility Ceremony was held at the Bob Jones Auditorium on the Arsenal.

It allows the U.S. Army to collectively thank Riling for his sacrifices and contributions to the country.

Both are non-commissioned officers.

Riling is the Army Materiel Command’s 14th command sergeant major, assigned to the position in 2011. He is the recipient of the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star among many others medals.

He was deployed to Iraq twice.

Riling was born and raised in Michigan and plans to remain in Huntsville after retiring in 2014.

Four-star General Dennis L. Via spoke to the audience, commending Riling for his service and leadership.
