CBS This Morning Anchor Charlie Rose reads ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, and it’s absolutely charming. He adds such a nice touch to the popular Christmas tale.
According to legend, Clement Clark Moore composed the poem on a snowy winter day during a shopping trip on a sleigh. The poem was first published anonymously in the Troy, New York Sentinel on December 23, 1823, and wasn’t attributed to Moore until 1837.
Four hand-written copies of the poem are known to exist. Three are in museums and the fourth was sold by a private collector to another in December 2006.
Moore, who preferred to be known for his more scholarly works, allowed the poem to be included in his anthology in 1844, at the request of his children.
