HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Carlie Trent, the missing Tennessee girl whose disappearance prompted an Amber Alert, was located Thursday afternoon in a very remote area.
As Tennessee Bureau of Investigation authorities explained, citizens Donnie Lawson and Stewart Franklin, decided to check the property near them after hearing the TBI's call for help.
Franklin told CBS's Knoxville affiliate, the Lord lead them to the 9-year-old and her accused kidnapper, her uncle Gary Simpson.
"I think it's the Lord leading us because each one of us had been praying every day to help us to find this little girl and so," Franklin said, pausing, "Finally answered prayers."
Franklin said his own two daughters inspired his search efforts.
"There's a lot of abandoned cabins in the area and it's a lot of, you know wilderness in here," he said, describing the area where the discovery was made.
Authorities said Franklin and Lawson held Simpson at gunpoint while they called authorities. The area was only reachable by ATV. In fact, Franklin said he'd passed the area before but this time, something made him check it.
