LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Limestone County School District is conducting an internal investigation into one of its principals. The superintendent placed Doctor Casey Lewis on paid administrative leave. Lewis is the principal at Johnson Elementary School.

WHNT NEWS 19 talked with Superintendent Doctor Tom Sisk. Dr. Sisk would not get into specifics. The superintendent did make one other thing very clear.

“Dr. Casey Lewis is the Principal of Johnson Elementary School,” said Dr. Sisk.

The principal is off the job for a while. Dr. Sisk put Dr. Lewis on paid administrative leave on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.

“When a principal or teacher is accused of wrong-doing, it is my practice to take them out of the situation, put them on paid administrative leave and send a staff person qualified to conduct a fair and impartial investigation,” added Dr. Sisk.

Sisk would not tell WHNT NEWS 19 why. He did talk about the process underway. He says district employees are investigating.

“They will write a report and give me that report. Based upon the findings of that report, I will make a recommendation to the board,” added Dr. Sisk.

The Limestone County School Board will decide the next course of action once that happens. The superintendent wanted to stress the process is ongoing.

“I don’t send people in to find fault. I send people in to find facts. He has not been found guilty of anything at this point,” added Dr. Sisk.

Lewis Berry is now in charge at Johnson Elementary School.

“He is thought of very highly. He is a great guy and a good instructional leader. I feel confident the school will continue to function and be managed well during this process,” added Dr. Sisk.

Berry is in his first year as an employee Limestone County Schools. He previously worked for Huntsville City Schools as Principal of J.O. Johnson High School.
