Driver of 18 Wheeler Killed in Wreck Near Fort Payne

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Authorities say the driver of an 18 wheeler is dead after a wreck on Interstate 59 in DeKalb County.

It happened around 3:00 a.m. near mile marker 229 about eight miles north of Fort Payne.

Authorities say the 18 wheeler also caught fire.

Traffic is down to one lane heading north while crews work to clear the scene.  This is expected to be the case for the next several hours.

State troopers and DeKalb County deputies are on the scene.

A hazmat team is also on scene because of fuel leak.
