COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The man accused of shooting his father to death in 2011 reached a plea deal with prosecutors Friday.
Brian Martin agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter and a 10 year prison sentence. He also forfeited his right to appeal as part of the agreement.
Martin is accused of killing his father in the front yard of his home over an owed debt.
His trial began Tuesday morning in Colbert County. After three days of testimony, the prosecution and defense presented their closing statements Friday morning.
The plea deal was reached just after the jury began deliberations.
