MADISON, Ala. – An investigation is underway after law enforcement authorities responded to a shooting call overnight in Madison County.

Madison County deputies and New Hope police officers responded to the 100 block of Walling Drive around 1:30 a.m.

However, they did not find a shooting victim after arriving on the scene.

Deputies say a homeowner told them he shot a man who was trying to enter his home.

Investigators say they were told the apparent shooting victim then ran down the street to another home and asked someone there to call 911 then apparently jumped in a car and took off.

Authorities say they have found a blood trail and have asked hospital to be on the lookout for a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
