MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. – Authorities worked to clean up a hazardous material leak from a vehicle at a gas station in Morgan County.

The incident happened at the Marathon gas station on Hwy 55 at I-65.

Falkville Police officers and Morgan County Sheriff’s Deputies set up a half-mile perimeter around the area as Fire and HazMat crews responded. Authorities asked that people avoid the area.

Both Interstate 65 and Highway 55 were closed for the cleanup efforts.

Crews were able to stop the leak just before 1:00 Thursday morning, at which time they worked to reopen the closed roads and checked the evacuated residents to make sure it was safe for everyone to return home.
