ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – Schools are offering support and encouragement for an Athens High School football player who was stabbed Tuesday afternoon.

Tarik Malone is recovering from surgery at Huntsville Hospital.  Police say another player stabbed Malone in the field house at the stadium.  That player, Rashaun Anderson, is in custody.

On Wednesday, Clements High School took a photo of students holding a banner with the words “Thinking of You, Tarik!”  They Tweeted it:

Athens will play Deshler on Thursday night.

Malone is expected to be in the hospital for about a week.
