ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office captured a runaway inmate on a roof of a local business in downtown Athens Wednesday morning.
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Corrections Officers were transporting a group of about 20 inmates to the courthouse. LCSO said that Nathan Harville ran from the group when the inmates were being moved from the transport van to the courthouse.
Authorities said a nearby citizen spotted Harville on the roof of the business and pointed him out to law enforcement who were searching for him.
Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin was brought up to the roof, with help from the Athens Fire Department, and took Harville into custody.
The City of Athens posted a video of the capture to their Facebook page.
“I just want to thank everybody that assisted, the community, the citizens obviously jumped up to help and make sure we knew where he was,” said Sheriff McLaughlin. “Athens Police Department responded immediately. My COs, our transport deputies, Alabama state troopers, our state probation officers, everyone in the area responded to assist. Which is why I believe this was able to come to a conclusion so quickly, I’m just so thankful for that.”
