ATHENS, Ala. - Athens Police have an increased presence of officers at Athens High School today after school administration notified Police Chief Floyd Johnson a rumor of a threat.

Athens City Schools posted a notice to its Facebook Page Tuesday morning to alert parents of the increase police presence, saying police officers will remain on campus throughout the day and extra officers will patrol the area throughout the rest of the week.

Chief Johnson said the rumor is vague and did not include direct threats toward any individuals.

Superintendent Trey Holladay says the reported threat was wiped off the bathroom wall before administrators could read it.  Holladay says the investigation will determine whether the extra officers remain on the school campus in the coming days.
