LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Limestone County deputies arrested Timothy Smith Friday evening. The sheriff’s office says Smith allegedly left his three children in a vehicle on Highway 251 south of Ardmore. Authorities say after Smith left the vehicle he went to lie down in the woods.
Deputies and investigators went to the vehicle after receiving a call from an observer who said children were left inside. Officials moved the children to safety, then found Smith in the nearby woods.
Investigators say Smith’s speech was slurred and deputies could smell the odor of alcohol on his break. Authorities say a mostly empty bottle of vodka was found inside the vehicle.
Smith is charged with Public Intoxication and Reckless Endangerment. He’s being held in the Limestone County Jail on $3,500 bond.
The children were released to family members.
