BLOUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Spring Valley Beach Water Park is closed Sunday, August 14, due to the parasite Cryptosporidium.
Sunday’s closure is on the recommendation of the Health Department, according to a post on the water park’s Facebook page. The Centers for Disease Control website calls the parasite “very tolerant to chlorine disinfection.” It is often transferred in recreational water, according to the CDC.
“Though we test our water every 2 hours throughout the day, there is no simple test for this particular parasite,” reads the statement from the park. “Although the incubation period has passed from the time it was introduced to our pool, we were advised this afternoon to close the park for [Sunday] and let the Health Department come out on Monday and do testing. We apologize for any inconvenience or worry this has caused. “
