TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — Trussville Police were able to recover over 45 pounds of marijuana and six guns during a search warrant over the weekend.

According to the Trussville Police Department, officers were able to recover 46 pounds of marijuana and six guns while executing a search warrant at a residence on Scooter Drive.

According to our news partners at AL.com, Trussville Police arrested 32-year-old Damien Beckham and 46-year-old Candida McCary. Both face charges including drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“Yes, recreational marijuana is still illegal in Alabama,” the police department posted on Facebook. “No, this is not a personal use amount.  Yes, marijuana does come from a seed that is planted in the ground, but the same can be said about the coca plant and the poppy plant from which cocaine and heroin are derived.”

In addition to drug charges, police say Beckham is wanted in Illinois for felony aggravated assault with a vehicle on a police officer and felony theft in Georgia.

Both are held in the St. Clair County Jail on bonds totaling over $1.5 million.
