‘Alabama for Oklahoma Animals’ Collecting Supplies For Pets

(WHNT) - Numerous groups are helping people suffering from tornado devastation in Oklahoma.  Now, animal lovers in the Tennessee Valley are stepping forward to collect supplies for pets.

The effort is called 'Alabama for Oklahoma Animals' and local groups will collect pet supplies through Saturday morning.

Donations will be accepted at the Greater Huntsville Humane Society until Saturday at 11 a.m.  They will also be accepted at The Ark until 12 p.m. Saturday. The deadlines are firm so a Huntsville driver can get them to a larger truck in Birmingham on time.

The following items are needed:

-Crates (esp. medium and large)
-Wet and/or dry pet food for adult cat/dog, etc.
-Hand-crank can openers
-Cat litter/litter pans
-Blankets, towels, pet bedding
-Collars and leashes
-Food and water bowls
-Flea & tick preventatives (NO HARTZ)
-Flea and tick collars
-Other medical supplies and water
-Cleaning supplies that are safe for pets
-Hand sanitizer and wipes
-Disposable gloves
-Large ziploc bags
-Chicken feed
-Chicken waterers
-Paper towels
-Trash bags
-Dog treats
-White copy paper
-Spiral notebooks
-Plastic sleeves (for paperwork to go on kennels)
-Caro syrup

The Greater Huntsville Humane Society is located at 2812 Johnson Road SW, Huntsville, AL 35805.

The Ark is at 129 Bo Cole Road NW, Huntsville AL 35806.

The coordinators are also collecting supplies in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.  'Alabama for Oklahoma Animals' has set up this Facebook page.  You can make a donation online through Have A Heart Animal Rescue.
