Democratic Rep. Pebblin Warren on Wednesday urged a House committee to approve the proposal for Macon County.
The proposed constitutional amendment specifies that Macon County bingo operations could use the same machines as the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Warren said her county suffered economically after the state seized electronic bingo operations at VictoryLand. While Alabama allows bingo, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled the slot machine lookalikes were illegal.
Warren said VictoryLand had been a major employer in the county.
Robert McGhee of the Poarch Band told lawmakers the state should take a comprehensive approach to gaming because other counties will seek similar amendments.
The committee did not vote Wednesday.
