A group of Alabama airmen will spend another football season in Afghanistan. And they’ve told our news partners at they would like to do so in true crimson and white and orange and blue fashion.

The Alabama Air Guard 187th Fighter Wing are requesting Alabama and Auburn gear including hats, shirts, etc. They are based at Montgomery Regional Airport, and have been deployed since March. The wing’s F-16CFighting Falcon aircraft – known as the “Red Tails” – provide armed security and support for ground units.

The airmen aren’t set to return until November and will be watching the kickoff of football season on the big screen set up at Bagram Air Base.

Football spirit care packages (items for men and woman are needed) can be sent to Lt. Col. Jon Shultz, 455 EOG/100EFS, APE, AE 09532.
