HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Ginny Ruffner introduces her new exhibition with a quotation on the wall. It begins, “What if you could see wondering?”

The name – Aesthetic Engineering – comes from the artist’s passion for genetics. She bends and twists, glass and metal, molding unlike things into singular experiences.

She views her work as  a genetic experiment in imagination. She styles herself as an engineer of whimsy.

So her creations just fit Huntsville.

Huntsville Museum of Art Director of Curatorial Affairs Peter Baldaia muses, “There’s a real opportunity for people to be inspired and challenged and blown away.”

Her work drips with the mind-bending world shifting that we know and love around here.

The signature piece, the kitchen sink flower, extends out into the room, with vines, described as strands of DNA.

All seemingly leading back to the quotation:

“What if you could see wondering?

What if you could imagine something invisible and then see it manifested?

Invisible things like traits and behaviors.

Traits like blooming and behaviors like dancing.

What if beauty  were a physical tangible object?” – Ginny Ruffner

Aesthetic Engineering opens with a special premier event Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

It’s a fundraiser, with great food and drink, so tickets are $100 a head. A complementing exhibit also opens this Sunday.
