JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Many drivers in the Tennessee Valley have seen him the past few days. A man in a bright orange shirt, carrying the American flag and walking steadily west on Highway 72. Each driver who passes him receives a salute.

The man is Walter “Chick” McGill, a 68-year-old pastor from Tennessee. He’s passing through our area on a cross country walk of faith that began on April 23, 2014 in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

McGill, a Vietnam veteran, says he’s walking to promote, “a new birth of freedom and integrity.” He expects to reach his goal of Santa Monica, California early next year. You can follow McGill’s journey through his daily blog and learn more at his website, walkingcoast2coast.com
