BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Two people have been charged with capital murder in the death of a 17-year-old girl reported missing earlier this month.
The body of Alexis Garcia, 17, was found on Thursday, March 19. Teams found her body in a wooded area off Tucker Mountain Road in Remlap, in Blount County. Crews had been searching the area for two days, following up on tips investigators had received.
Garcia, of Birmingham, had been reported missing March 5 by her mother. The teenager was last seen March 1.
Shannon Yager, 39, of Locust Fork and Samantha Wright, 18, of Helena are each charged with two counts of capital murder (robbery and kidnapping) in connection with Garcia’s death.
Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey thanked the Blount County Sheriff’s Office for their work on the case, particularly Investigators Scott Kanaday and Jeff Kirkland, along with the Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics.
“Investigator Kanaday and Kirkland worked tirelessly on this case,” Casey said.
