DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT)-A young philanthropist in Ider has come up with a plan to help her peers this coming school year, and ultimately help people on an even bigger scale.

Mycah Swift is a 12-year-old girl with big dreams. Since she was 8, she's dreamed of helping others, and now finally has the opportunity with the launch of her project "Just for Kicks". She came up with the idea after watching some of her peers go to school with no shoes.

"I knew those kids needed help and so I realized I should come up with an event to help those kids," said Swift.

Swift has left drop boxes at various locations to collect new or gently worn shoes, and donations for kids in need. On August 2nd, a family friendly event will be held at Ider Park, to distribute shoes.

Pamela Mayo was the first person in town to agree to hold a drop box for shoes and donations in her store, and was impressed by the young girls drive.

"The fact that someone her age would get all of this together, and work on it, and believe in it and its for a good cause, and she's helping the community, I just think it's really awesome," says Mayo.

So far there are 4 drop off locations, but swift hopes people will continue to get on board and help her cause "I'm going to like try to keep this going as long as I can, and help everybody out there, so I'm hoping this goes a long way," adds Swift.
