This is license fee collection work related to the city’s privilege license codes. Work involves determining the proper license fee, receiving and accounting for various fees and other revenues, and accurately posting payment to the proper account.


Work is performed according to the city’s privilege license codes containing a large number of licenses and fees. Work is reviewed by a revenue collections supervisor for accuracy of work, proper accounting of revenues received, proper posting to accounts, and pleasant and courteous communications with the public over the counter or by telephone.

Computes privilege license tax and issues licenses; posts amount received to the proper account; balances cash and checks received with receipts. Verifies collections of revenue made by other departments, tennis center, parks and recreation, cemetery, prepares receipts and sometimes, the bank deposits slips. Communicates with the public by telephone over the counter regarding problems in license applications, and to collect and receipt for the proper fee; assists members of the public in resolving problems or provides information to the public who, at times, may be irate.


Verifies current status of business licenses using networked computers. Opens and distributes mail. Requires regular and prompt attendance plus the ability to work well with others and work well as a team. Order receipt books from the print shop. Cashing checks and making change for city employees. Performs related work as required.


Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Work is essentially sedentary.  Computer work requires manual dexterity.


High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and experience in collecting and receipting for payments; or any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the followingknowledge, skills, and abilities.

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of receiving, receipting for, and posting figures. Considerable knowledge of the operation of personal computers. Skill in the operation of a ten-key calculator to add, subtract, multiply, and divide figures. Skill in use of personal computers. Skill in interpersonal relations in dealing with the public in a friendly and courteous manner. Skill in dealing effectively with irate people. Ability to learn and accurately apply guidelines and schedules in the license code book.
