The Child Life Specialist identifies the psycho-social needs of the pediatric patient and provides activities that are developmentally appropriate to satisfy those needs. Executes therapeutic and recreational activities and evaluates the patient’s response/progress toward normal age and behavior. Schedules volunteers to ensure smooth operation of the Child Life Program during the daytime hours. Acts as liaison for activities from the community.
- Bachelor’s degree in family and child development, childlife, or related field.
- Internship in Child Life supervised by certified Child Life Specialist.
- Child Life Certification or eligibility to sit for exam.
- Clinical experience in Child Life Program.
Candidate must have completed a child life internship of 480+ hours under the supervision of a CCLS.
Experience: At least 1-2 years of on the job experience in an acute care setting within a child life program.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Child Life Professional certification.
Child Life Certified or able to sit for exam. Previous child life experience preferred
Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
