Albertville, Ala. (WHNT) – This week’s Tools for Teachers honoree and recipient of $319 cash for classroom supplies is Spring Charles, a veteran educator in her 16th year of teaching. The first 15 years of her career were spent teaching Albertville’s 2nd graders, but this year she’s taking on a whole new set of challenges by teaching technology to the students of Albertville Middle School- many of whom she had taught previously.

Ms. Charles was nominated for this recognition by Allison Paschal, mom to a former student. This grateful mother told us Ms. Charles was deserving because of the amount of time and money she puts into her students as well as the life lessons she strives to teach.

After we surprised Ms. Charles in her classroom with cash in hand, we asked her which life-lesson she most hoped her kids would take away from her classroom.

“I’ve always told my students to be who they are,” said Charles, fighting back tears. “Try not to go with that peer pressure of kids wanting you to be somebody else that you’re not.. to live your life to the fullest.”

If you know a worthy teacher, coach, principal, or aide, tell us about them through the Tools for Teachers nomination form.
