HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - A busy downtown street will close today for a special community event, and you're invited to join in.  One Table is a city-wide Thanksgiving potluck that is open to everyone.  It's from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. next to the Madison County Courthouse in Huntsville.

"What we plan to do is close off the street from the intersection of Northside Square and Westside Square to Southside Square and put one big table down the middle of the street," explains Causeway Huntsville board member Les Tillery.

By combining food and fellowship, the goals are to remove barriers and bring people together.

"What we want to do is bring together a community wide Thanksgiving potluck," says Tillery. "It will be sort of a mashup of all different types of people. You might have business executives from downtown sitting across the  table from somebody from the homeless population."

Causeway Huntsville is planning the One Table event, which has never been done before here. Still, Tillery says they're expecting a crowd.

"Causeway is going to provide the turkey, dressing and drinks," says Tillery. "So we're going to have enough of that to feed 500 people."

You're asked to bring a side dish to share with the new friends you'll meet.

WHNT News 19 recently surprised Causeway Huntsville with a Pay it Forward of $319 to help with expenses for the meal.
