GRANT, Ala. (WHNT) –  A dog had a close-encounter with the cold on Saturday, falling through the ice into a pond off Willbanks Road in Grant.

Onlookers called the fire department. They say the dog was likely chased onto the ice by coyotes.

The firefighters helped get a boat out to rescue the dog. They managed to pull him in. They say he has a collar, but they’re not sure about his owner.

He’s staying with the people who spotted him, while they work to find his owner.
