WHNT News 19 is taking action with Kids To Love to make sure foster kids have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.

Hard to believe that school is about to start and even harder to believe that some kids won’t have the supplies they need to start the school year. You can help us Pack the Backpacks through August 4.

These boxes of backpacks may look like ordinary school supplies, but to foster children they are keys to success. Filled with pencils, paper and other classroom tools, Kids To Love will deliver packs to thousands of foster children, so they`re prepared to learn with their peers when the back to school bell rings.

It sounds simple.  A box of crayons costs about 50 cents.  A binder runs around a buck.

We need more donations of things like ink pens and markers, notebooks and glue sticks, to help alleviate the burden on foster families and guarantee foster children are equipped for class.

On your next shopping trip, we hope you`ll purchase an extra supply or two so we can continue to 'pack the backpacks' -- because one thing you can`t put a price tag on is confidence in the classroom.

Eight locations of Jack’s Family Restaurants and 18 Wal-Mart stores, as well as Landers McClarty Subaru will accept such school supply donations through August 4th.  If you don’t have time to shop, Kids To Love will do it for you. You can make a monetary donation by clicking here.
